Gotcha Mama podcast Episode 007 – Putting your needs first is a matter of life and death with Rachel Mayo

My guest for this episode is Rachel Mayo. Rachel is the mom to her IVF miracle baby boy. She works for a nonprofit close to her heart that’s located just outside Nashville, TN – the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Rachel has lived with the autoimmune disease Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), sometimes referred to as Juvenile Diabetes, for 14 years.

T1D is a frustrating and life-threatening disease that requires constant monitoring of blood sugar levels, correcting, and adjusting in order to stay alive. Yeah! Serious stuff.

Then factor in all that’s required mentally and physically in order to care for a new baby! Just adding weight to the mental and physical exhaustion of being a mom.

This is NO pity party or “gloom and doom” episode though my friend!! Rachel is one of the most positive people I’ve met!

She’s passionate about encouraging others like her to navigate living with T1D to live fully in spite of their obstacles.

We talk about

  • How her having T1D affected her physically and emotionally during pregnancy
  • Her fears and the very the real possibility she faces every day as a mom with T1D
  • The need for an understanding community of support
  • What she CAN eat as a Diabetic:)

More about the Gotcha Mama Podcast:

The Gotcha Mama Podcast is where we share honest stories of the joys and struggles of mom-life with young kids.

Each week host Amanda Bennett interviews a mom about topics ranging from awkwardly making mom friends, to chasing BIG dreams and finding purpose, to managing crippling anxiety and depression. You’ll hear stories from moms like you with the purpose to inspire, encourage, and entertain you.

We understand that motherhood can be lonely and make you doubt yourself. The Gotcha Mama Podcast exists to let you know that you are not alone as a busy mom of young kiddos, no matter what you’re dealing with.

The show is all about tearing down our insecurities as moms by honestly sharing our stories and a little of what we’ve learned along the way.

We believe it’s a whole lot better riding the rollercoaster of motherhood together!
