Gotcha Mama Podcast Episode 20 – Lessons in life and love from raising a child with Autism with Tricia Baumhardt

In today’s episode, I’m talking with a mom I’ve known for a couple of years, Tricia Baumhardt.

Tricia and I attend the same church and our husbands have known each other for a while. They are such a sweet and down-to-earth couple with two precious kiddos.

Tricia is a continual source of wisdom and spiritual encouragement for women and moms. And I’m inspired by how honest and candid Tricia is when she talks about how she navigates unpredictable and sometimes uncomfortable parenting situations. We’ve all been there!

I appreciate, and I know you will too, how honestly and transparently she shares her family’s journey loving and growing with a child who has special needs.

Tricia’s oldest child, daughter Ava, was diagnosed as having Autism when she was just three years old.

More about the guest

Tricia was the lead singer of the Grammy-nominated band Superchick for 15 years!!

Since becoming a mom to her 2 kids, she’s been a full-time mom and part-time worship leader.

She loves to help cultivate deeper relationships with women in her community and church.

We talk about

  • What it was like for her and her husband when they got the diagnosis that Ava has Autism
  • The range of reactions she’s experienced from other parents when she’s out in public with Ava
  • What she’s learned about herself and other people since Ava’s diagnosis
  • How she and her husband talk to her youngest child about Ava’s behavior and Autism
  • Her advice to other parents who’ve received a diagnosis that their child has Autism

More about the Gotcha Mama Podcast:

The Gotcha Mama Podcast is where we share honest stories of the joys and struggles of mom-life with young kids.

Each week host Amanda Bennett interviews a mom about topics ranging from awkwardly making mom friends, to chasing BIG dreams and finding purpose, to managing crippling anxiety and depression. You’ll hear stories from moms like you with the purpose to inspire, encourage, and entertain you.

We understand that motherhood can be lonely and make you doubt yourself. The Gotcha Mama Podcast exists to let you know that you are not alone as a busy mom of young kiddos, no matter what you’re dealing with.

The show is all about tearing down our insecurities as moms by honestly sharing our stories and a little of what we’ve learned along the way.

We believe it’s a whole lot better riding the rollercoaster of motherhood together!
