Trigger Warning: This is episode is emotional and graphic about childhood cancer.
Imagine this: your hearing gets muffled and the room starts to look dark. Your world is turning upside down in that very moment. You are sitting in the ER staring at the awful curtains trying to make sense of what the doctor is telling you.
My guest on today’s episode experienced that gut-wrenching situation.
Stefani is a wife and mom to two young boys living in Washington, D.C. When her son Brody was sixteen months old, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and a terrifying series of events followed.
BUT, my friend, TRUST that I would NOT leave you with a story that ends in the middle of tragedy!!
Stefani has shown tremendous strength and tenacity navigating the chaos and unpredictability of having a child with cancer. I appreciate her courage to share the tough and messy things she’s experienced as a mom.
My hope (and Stefani’s too!!) is that your takeaway from this episode is that you see the value in persistence, hope, and grace for yourself and other moms in the middle of difficult seasons.
We talk about
- How her son’s illness changed everything for her and her family
- The rollercoaster of emotions that comes with cancer treatments
- Being a parent of a child with special needs
- How friends and family can best support moms (and dads) who have sick children
- How support, parenting, and community look different for parents with children in need of extended medical treatment
