Gotcha Mama podcast episode 48 – Growing a Business and a Family One Step at a Time with Alessandra Pollina

Imagine yourself five years from now. What are you doing? What have you achieved? Who is around you? How are you feeling?

Well, I’m going to be as honest as I can be. I know what I’d like to achieve this year and a couple of five-year goals. But friend, if I’ve learned anything as a mom and through the Coronavirus pandemic, it’s this – make plans, but don’t be surprised if life throws a wrench in those plans and brings something different your way.

My guest on this week’s episode of the Gotcha Mama podcast is Alessandra Pollina. She knows how much can change when running a business and growing a family at the same time. She is a wife, mom to her four-year-old son, owner of Pollina PR and marketing agency, and host of the Female Millennial Entrepreneur Podcast.

Alessandra has had her own business for eight years and has learned a LOT about expectations, changing needs and desires, and the ability to be flexible in business and in motherhood.

Her story is proof – and it needs to be said more often – that no successful business is an overnight success. And just because things may feel difficult or uncomfortable right now, that isn’t a sign that you are doing anything wrong or that you should give up.

Determination, grit, perseverance, whatever you want to call it, is what ultimately determines who will be successful. To say it simply – KEEP GOING. You can do that thing you want to or live that life you desire.

How do you do it then? For Alessandra, one step at a time.

More about the guest

Alessandra is a wife, mom to her four-year-old son, and owner of Pollina PR + marketing agency based in Boston, Massachusetts.

She attended Boston University’s College of Communication, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Communications with a focus on public relations, and a minor in anthropology.

In 2012, after she graduated from college, she launched her own company. Pollina PR + marketing is a full-service boutique PR and marketing agency.

In addition to offering full-service PR, Alessandra loves to work directly with business owners to train them on PR tactics, strategy, and implementation best-practices, so that they are empowered to promote their businesses and build their brands. She especially loves working with fellow female entrepreneurs and helping spread their messages to the world.

In 2016 she founded the Female Millennial Entrepreneurs Boston networking group. The group aims to bring like-minded entrepreneurs and business owners together for in-person connection and learning experiences.

In 2019 she launched The Female Millennial Entrepreneur Podcast, a podcast by and for female millennial entrepreneurs.

We talk about

  • Why she started her PR agency,
  • How she grew a business while raising a child, as well as some of the unexpected challenges she experienced along the way
  • What changed in the eight years that she’s had her business
  • And the advice that she would tell a mom who’s in the first year of trying to run a business and may be feeling discouraged.

More about the Gotcha Mama Podcast:

The Gotcha Mama Podcast is where we share honest stories of the joys and struggles of mom-life with young kids.

Each week host Amanda Bennett interviews a mom about topics ranging from awkwardly making mom friends, to chasing BIG dreams and finding purpose, to managing crippling anxiety and depression. You’ll hear stories from moms like you with the purpose to inspire, encourage, and entertain you.

We understand that motherhood can be lonely and make you doubt yourself. The Gotcha Mama Podcast exists to let you know that you are not alone as a busy mom of young kiddos, no matter what you’re dealing with.

The show is all about tearing down our insecurities as moms by honestly sharing our stories and a little of what we’ve learned along the way.

We believe it’s a whole lot better riding the rollercoaster of motherhood together!
