Gotcha Mama Podcast – Episode 17: How to rediscover your body after childbirth (part 1) with Katherine Sylvester

On today’s episode, I’m talking with mom and Physical Therapist, Katherine Sylvester. We get REAL today! We talk about what really happens to our bodies as moms during pregnancy and childbirth.

You WILL hear words like “vagina”, “penetration”, “sex,” and all kinds of other biologically correct terms used. So you might not want to listen to this episode without earbuds around the kids. Unless you’re ready for a real graphic “birds and the bees” story. Know what I’m sayin?!

Katherine works with moms to help them rediscover their physical strength and confidence.

To this end, her program focuses on muscle flexibility, urinary continence, sexual fulfillment (hey!), internal confidence, and core stability.

She’s passionate about debunking the myth that childbirth means having to wear pads, losing your abs, having low energy, and not feeling sexy anymore.

We got into so much good stuff that I had to make a part 2. The rest of the conversation will be a Q&A with Katherine in next week’s episode.

If you don’t walk away from this episode having learned something new, you weren’t paying attention!

More about the guest

Katherine has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and psychology from Mercer University. She also has her doctorate in Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Georgia. She lives in Macon, GA with her husband and her five-year-old son.

For the first five years of her physical therapy career, she helped patients who had sustained a stroke, brain damage, or spinal cord injury.

After giving birth to her son, she became equally passionate about helping mothers rediscover who they are physically, emotionally, socially and intimately.

Katherine loves Jesus and has a passion for helping others. She firmly believes that “All things are possible to him who believes that all things are possible” (Mark 9:23).

When she’s not working, she enjoys traveling, being with her family, mentoring PT students, writing poetry, and eating frozen yogurt.

More about the Gotcha Mama Podcast:

The Gotcha Mama Podcast is where we share honest stories of the joys and struggles of mom-life with young kids.

Each week host Amanda Bennett interviews a mom about topics ranging from awkwardly making mom friends, to chasing BIG dreams and finding purpose, to managing crippling anxiety and depression. You’ll hear stories from moms like you with the purpose to inspire, encourage, and entertain you.

We understand that motherhood can be lonely and make you doubt yourself. The Gotcha Mama Podcast exists to let you know that you are not alone as a busy mom of young kiddos, no matter what you’re dealing with.

The show is all about tearing down our insecurities as moms by honestly sharing our stories and a little of what we’ve learned along the way.

We believe it’s a whole lot better riding the rollercoaster of motherhood together!
