“It takes a village to raise a child”.
Chances are if you’re a mom, you have lots of thoughts on this topic…especially in this age of social distancing and digital communities…
“What if I don’t have a village?”
“How do I find my village?”
“How do I create a supportive village that pushes me to be the person I want to be?”
“Why does her village seem so much better than mine?”
In August’s episode, “Struggling With Identity in Motherhood“, I talked about the first of the three areas to focus on when trying to discover and connect with your identity as a mom – giving yourself permission to be a new version of yourself.
If you haven’t listened to the August episode, then I highly recommend you go back and listen to that now.
In this episode I’m going to talk about the second of the three areas to focus on in order to rediscover/discover/or connect with your identity as a mom.
Having a support system.
Before you write this off as- oh yeah, it takes a village to raise a child, blah blah blah… Don’t tune out or click to your Facebook page just yet:)
This area has and continues to help me understand and connect with who I am as a mom and as a human being. And my guess is that whether or not you’ve thought a lot about it, this area influences you just as much too.
I’m SO excited about the next several interview episodes this month. They all relate to some important aspects of your support system as a mom.
And goodness, I think this is SO timely for me. And maybe for you too!
I’ve been feel really disconnected and isolated in these four months postpartum and doing social distancing.
These conversations I got the pleasure of having were the inspiration and refreshment I needed to get me through some of these difficult days.
I hope you find this episode and the following several episodes to be nourishing to your mama soul right now.
I talk about
- Lies we tell ourselves about villages and some misconceptions we have about the benefits of a village
- How a supportive community helped me and where I found that community that I craved
- Understanding how your village changes in different seasons
- Community affecting and shaping your identity as a mom
