Your Motherhood Story Matters

Gotcha Mama podcast episode 43 – Your Motherhood Story Matters

This is the first Mother’s Day that I will be the mom of two tiny humans! I feel honored and exhausted and totally unprepared for most of it. But I’m so grateful for the gift of children and family.

I do want to acknowledge though that Mother’s Day and the month of May can bring up complicated emotions and challenging memories for some moms.

Mother’s Day Isn’t Always Easy To Celebrate

Motherhood and being a mother figure isn’t always rainbows and tulips.

Some women…

…have strained relationships with their mothers, either in the past or now.

…have absent or deceased mothers.

…have been trying unsuccessfully to become mothers themselves.

…have miscarried or lost children to illness.

…have been waiting for the adoption of a child to come through for a painfully long time.

…have battled unthinkable postpartum disorders.

I don’t want to overlook the sometimes difficult paths and parts of motherhood. Because sharing those tough stories connects us. It comforts us. It reassures us that there are others who are experiencing similar situations and emotions.

And feeling seen and understood is important.

You need to know that your story, your journey is worthy and your challenges can be used to help others.

The hard things you go through can encourage another mom. Your compassion and encouragement may be exactly what she needs to move forward and thrive as a mother.

This Month on the Podcast

This month of celebrating mothers I wanted to chat with moms and talk about some of the maybe not so typical Mother’s Day topics:

  • I talk with Kristin Dillensynder about her infertility journey
  • I talk with Kristina Dulaney about being a Postpartum Psychosis survivor
  • And I talk with Erica Willis about adopting a child into her family

These women are amazing mothers with incredible, inspiring, and sometimes painful stories.

And I’m so honored that they would come on the show to share. I know you will find great strength and encouragement in each story.

I want you to know that no matter how you became a mom – biologically, by marriage, by adoption- that I celebrate you!

And if you are still waiting to be a mom – I celebrate you too!

This month and EVERY month.

In This Episode, I talk about

  • What this particular Mother’s Day means to me
  • What I hope changes before my daughter becomes a mom
  • Celebrating all kinds of moms (bio moms, bonus moms, foster & adoption moms, waiting to be moms, etc.)
  • The importance of sharing your motherhood story

More about the Gotcha Mama Podcast:

The Gotcha Mama Podcast is where we share honest stories of the joys and struggles of mom-life with young kids.

Each week host Amanda Bennett interviews a mom about topics ranging from awkwardly making mom friends, to chasing BIG dreams and finding purpose, to managing crippling anxiety and depression. You’ll hear stories from moms like you with the purpose to inspire, encourage, and entertain you.

We understand that motherhood can be lonely and make you doubt yourself. The Gotcha Mama Podcast exists to let you know that you are not alone as a busy mom of young kiddos, no matter what you’re dealing with.

The show is all about tearing down our insecurities as moms by honestly sharing our stories and a little of what we’ve learned along the way.

We believe it’s a whole lot better riding the rollercoaster of motherhood together!
